ABOUT PLACID " 'tis why we chose the name. " --PLACID The band was formed July 13, 2001. With JN on guitar and Lloyd on drums as primary members, they have invited Nat--who was then a new comer from the province of Puerto Galera, an aspiring musician--to join the band. And without a doubt, filled with unthinkable excitement, she had accepted the invitation playing rhythm guitar. Starting their first studio rehearsal, dated July 13 2001 (Friday the 13th), without proper instruments of their own, they struggled, putting their hearts on creating music, accepting what they had. Day after day grave sacrifices have been made...just to save enough money for instruments of their own! Like saving 100 pesos allowance per day, not eating, (or eating someone else’s lunch!!!) just so they can buy their needs for the band. Barnaby, who was also their schoolmate and also a primary member of the band, was their bass guitar player. But unfortunately he had to leave the band for a very reasonable basis. Lloyd had then attempted to play the bass, and fortunately, he had the trade for it. So from then on he changed his position to becoming the bass player. Great! But now, the band was in need for a drummer. They found Tantan. The band was glad that they have found a drummer but unluckily, there were some issues that lead PLACID to a regrettable compulsory verdict; he must be let go. And so, in search for a new permanent drummer, they invited a friend to play for them for the time being. Dennis admitted to becoming their temporary drummer; only temporary for he too had other obligations to his own band. Through their journey, they felt that their contentment in their sound was lacking. So they asked Boggs--who was introduced to the band by Lloyd--to be their percussionist. Along with Nat on rhythm guitar/lead vocal, JN as lead guitarist, Lloyd on bass, and Boggs as percussionist, PLACID was still missing a permanent drummer. One day, on the way to a rehearsal studio (without a drummer) Boggs saw an old schoolmate, Jade, on the sidewalk, waiting for a ride home. He had a bag with a pair of drumsticks. It was somewhat a fluke, but strangely enough, a very fortunate fluke! PLACID was in need of a drummer as much as Jade was in need of a band. So, the band invited him to join the rehearsal, and from then on he became the permanent drummer of PLACID. Then the ride began... The band started from covering songs from Sublime, 311, Barbie's Cradle etc,. Not long after that, they've started playing their own compositions (January 31, Bedtime). Owing to the help, inspiration, support and strength given to her by the other band mates, Nat was buoyant to write more and more songs. Nat states: "Maganda rin para sakin mga gawa ko, pero mas maganda pag nalapatan na ng ibang tunog ng mga kamyembro ko..HUWAYOP!" PLACID: Most people would compare us to other bands. They would compare our music to the music of other artists. But we believe that every musician has their own styles, scheme, and especially ‘feeling'. We don't even know what to call our 'genre'. But we know we are not the only ones who can't figure out what category we should position our music, and there are others that don’t know what to call their music. Thus, we suppose all artists have no need to be categorized. And so now maybe you ask yourself—what do we call our music? When people ask us, we just say "Rock and Roll the Joint". Let us explain: Each member of PLACID has different influences and favor different moods of music. Our favorites vary from punk rock to hip-hop and r'n'b, metal to reggae, and alternative rock to other experimental sounds. But somehow together we get along in creating our own music and this has created a great bond between us. With this bond, we travel together, passing through each others hearts looking for what will make us whole. And despite our differences we were able to connect. 'Rock' portrays aggressiveness (and when we say aggressiveness, we mean forceful and powerful but not violence). 'Roll the joint’.. well... ;) for us conveys serenity, peace, composure. What we are trying to say is that whatever our differences, we can still unite. In spite of the contrast between aggressiveness and composure all can unite through one dialect. Humans have different emotions, different languages. But there is only one language where we can all connect.
